National Theater
The National Theatre is the most important Czech stage and its repertoire consists of drama, opera and ballet performances. The theatre's repertoire is based on a rich classical tradition but includes also contemporary domestic authors and modern trends.
The National Theatre's performs operas by both Czech (Smetana, Dvorak, Janacek) and foreign composers (Puccini, Wagner, Verdi, Rossini and others).
The building of the National Theater is the most beautiful example of Czech architecture from the second half of the 19th century. It was built in Neo-Renaissance style and has an unusual history. Before its solemn opening, The National Theater was almost destroyed by fire. Thanks to public collections, it was rebuilt within two years.
